November 7, 2016 by Kate 7 Comments

Do you have a child who is a fussy eater? Well with this recipe you will never look at a sweet potato in the same way. Let me show you how to bake sweet potato chips in the oven with kids and get them to be involved and actually enjoy eating them. It’s seriously so easy and your children will not believe they are healthy.

The humble sweet potato, for so long has it been overshadowed by it’s starchy potato friend. With recent studies it has come to light that whilst both are incredibly healthy and full of goodness, the sweet potato actually provides us with more fibre, vitamins and minerals.

Fortunately we can also prepare them in such a variety of ways. So let me show you how to bake sweet potato chips in the oven with kids and watch them crunch on their goodness and ask for more and more. It’s seriously easy.

Recommended Age to assist with cooking: 3 years +
(Strict and active supervision required)

To help with the super crunch factor, slice the sweet potato into thin discs and have your child to add them to a lined baking tray.

You might like to ask your child to count the number of sweet potato chips on the tray or to share with you which chip is the largest or smallest. This simple conversation can really help them develop counting and language skills.

You might like to drizzle or spray the sweet potato chips with some olive oil as this will help with getting them golden and crunchy. Your child might like to sprinkle the sweet potato chips with a teaspoon of sea salt and 1/2 teaspoon of paprika.

The simple task of sprinkling salt and paprika using a rubbing motion between the fingers develops a child’s fine motor skills. How easy is that!

Bake in the oven for 10 – 15 minutes at 120c (or 250f). Carefully remove the tray of sweet potato chips from the oven and allow them to rest for 10 minutes. If there are some that are still very soft in the middle after the 10 minutes resting time, return them to the oven for an extra 5 minutes.

Serve immediately.
