I love that developing fine motor skills can be as simple as threading yarn on a paper plate.

This is one of those activities can came about from my oldest daughter being ‘bored’. That’s when such great creativity happens.
Recommended age: 3 years +
(Strict and close supervision required on all ideas shared)

I love how easy this activity idea is and how fabulous it is for developing those fine motor skills and creativity. This simple idea of threading yarn on a paper plate only requires a few pieces.
You’ll need –
- Yarn
- Scissors
- Paper plate
- Pens (optional)

You might start this activity by carefully poking some holes into the paper plate. Make them large enough for your child to get an end of yarn through.
Depending on their age, you might like to give them long lengths of yarn to thread through the holes, or keep the ball of yarn attached and have them decide themselves how much to pull through.

Once your child has had fun threading lots of yarn through the various holes on the paper plate, they might like to decorate the plate with pens, as you can see.
Is this an activity you think your child would enjoy?
