Sequined CD spinner

September 14, 2015 by Kate Leave a Comment

These beautiful sequinned CD spinners is such a wonderful and simple craft for toddlers or preschoolers to make. Your child will only need a few bits to make them and once finished, they absolutely glimmer in the sunlight and spin when hung from wire.    Sequined cd spinners. craft for toddlers or preschoolers Are CDs still used these days? It’s hard to keep up…. I was recently doing a Spring clean out of a cupboard that was haunting me for a number of months when I came across some old CDs. Without any need for them, I was reminded about this post from Jackie over at Happy Hooligans, where she turned them into decorative outdoor spinners. I knew it would be a little project that Possum (almost 4 years) would love.

Recommended age: 3 years +  (Active supervision is required on all my activities) What you'll need

I’m sure you don’t need me to tell you how simple these are to make and once you have all that you need, set up and clean up is a breeze. Here is your check list of materials –

  • Old CDs
  • Glue
  • Sequins and jewels
  • Cotton swabs (optional)
  • String Making sparkling cds decoration

To make things a little easier to contain, I like to place all the bits and pieces on a large plastic tray. I’m sure you’ve seen me use this a number of times in previous posts. I find it’s just a great way to contain everything , including stray sequins, and makes clean up much easier.  As you can see, I gave Possum cotton swabs that she could use to help spread the glue. She really liked using them because she can sometimes dislike the feeling of glue drying on her hands. Obviously when you include cotton swabs you can encouraging your child to develop their fine motor skills. decorating cds craft It was lovely watching Possum do this quiet time activity. She spent a lot of time concentrating and carefully positioning each of the sequin pieces. Some children might approach this activity in a similar way, whilst others might enjoy sprinkling the sequins from a height and watching them fall randomly onto the glue.  CD decoration craft with sequins gluing on sequins and glitter to cdWhist she was doing this activity she was also talking about the different shapes these particular sequins we used were and the colours. We spent some time talking about the various shades one particular colour can be.  cd decoration craft for kids

So beautiful, right? I love how each of the CDs she decorated looked so different!

Facebook cd spinnersOnce Possum had finished decorating her sequined CD spinners I used some picture framing wire to hang them. If I had fishing wire these CDs would have spun better in the wind, however, sometimes you just need to use what you have. These sequined CD spinners look gorgeous in our garden.
