Here is a great way to get kids painting and it doesn’t use a paint brush!
Instead, I have simply used a piece of nature and created something amazing.

____________
To begin…..
Micador have some brilliant paints, which I purchased from Big W.
These ‘Itty Bitty Paint Pots’ only set me back just a few dollars!
I decided to use Agapanthus plants as my paint brush.
These plants are commonly found in many household gardens, especially in Australia.
They grow easily and add a splash of colour and resemble fireworks.

When Agapanthus plants dry out they can easily be used a paintbrush.
I added my paints to some paper plates and held the end of my plant stem.
I really like that I was able to paint from a distance.
This provides me with a different perspective.
Children rarely have the opportunity to work at a distance from their paper.

Children will love doing this activity!
The ‘bristles’ of my brush looked beautiful once my panting was complete.
Here I decided to have a go at using some fluro colours and use a sweeping action.
Once I was happy I hung up my masterpieces to dry.
I was really pleased with how it turned out and I didn’t even use a paint brush!
These I will turn into some beautiful wrapping paper or possibly frame them.
Nature can give us the best tools to work with.
I hope your little one has a great time giving this activity a go.
Please add your comments below because I love to hear from you.

What a great use for those agapanthus heads! We always use them in imaginary play but my kids will LOVE this too!
Thank you kindly Kate. We have quite a few Agapanthus plants growing so it’s nice to make use of the flower heads that have had their time. I appreciate the comment. Hope you are well.
I was *just* saying to my husband yesterday that we need to keep an eye out for interesting shapes on our bushwalks so we can do some painting and stamping with them. I’m loving that my child is getting old enough to be able to do all this sort of fun stuff. Yay for free and enriching supplies! xx Danya
My little one is still a bit too young to do this, probably only a few months off so I got to have the pleasure. It was great fun and I love free and enriching supplies. Thanks for your comments.
Painting with nature is always a winner here, but we haven’t used an agapanthus yet. Thanks
It was really great fun. I think it’s best when they have dried out though. Thanks for your comment Jackie.
My youngest calls them ‘Firework Flowers’ !
They produce very effective firework paintings themselves 🙂
I thought so to! Very pretty!
great idea! stopping by from fybf
We’ve done this and like you said, painting from a distance is a whole different experience!
Lovely paintings! It would be cool to see what else you could find in the garden to paint with
Those are really pretty- they look like fireworks also!
Oh this looks really lovely! Such a fun creative idea! I will totally try this when Lior gets a bit older!
