Painting with Bubble Wands

September 2, 2013 by Kate 21 Comments

Painting with children is lots of fun and especially when it’s done with bubble wands!
Such a unique and fun learning experience for children and the creative markings look great!

Possum’s current obsession at the moment is with bubbles. Bubbles, bubbles, bubbles! We usually make our own bubble solution. I love how she giggles with such delight when they magically appear through hand made bubble wands or the many plastic wands we find around the house.

I decided to mix things up a bit, what about painting and printing with bubble wands!

We seem to have lots of bubble wands around the house but you can pick up a huge tub of various bubble wands at Big W for about AU$7. For the paint we used acrylic paint but you can use whatever you have handy.

Teachable moments –
How many bubble wands can you count?
Can you order them from smallest to largest? Largest to smallest?
Can you group them according to colour?
What type of bubbles would you predict to come out of each wand? Why?

Possum took no time in recognising what was expected of her. Quickly she began pressing the bubble wand into the paint, printing and scraping it onto the paper. Soon the colours began to mix together. I was sure to use describing words that explained what she was doing and help build her language development.

Teachable moments –
Can you name the colours of the paint?
Can you match them the colour of the bubble wand with the colour of the paint?
What shapes are the bubble wands?

The bubbles wands were beyond brilliant to use as painting tools. The patters that they created were so unique and this activity opened up so many doors to learn about so much more.

Love!

Possum was really pleased with her painting efforts and wanted it to take pride of place on the family fridge. Whilst it was drying I took the time to quickly clean the bubble wands in warm soapy water and we headed outside for some more bubbly fun.

Of could there are many benefits to playing with bubbles. They help with eye tracking, fine and gross motor skills, vocal development when blowing the bubble mixture to create the bubbles and  the sheer delight of watching them dance in a breeze.

You can read more about playing with bubbles here in another Laughing Kids Learn post.

I hope you have enjoyed this post and consider the activity for your own family.

Great idea, there are some really pretty shaped bubble wands that would work nicely. The patterns you made are lovely.

I think I’m going to have to go out and buy some bubble wands! My 20 month old son has a very short attention span when it comes to painting, it lasts all of about 1 minute so maybe this will extend it a little!

What a great idea. I tire of bubble blowing very quickly, something about how the detergent feels. This would be something I could handle much better and miss 3 would still get to play with the wands.

[…]   It’s hard to believe that another year is drawing to a close and 2014 is steam rolling around so quickly.  Where does the time go? Possum is another year older and certainly much wiser and I take the time to reflect on what has been a terrific year of learning together on Laughing Kids Learn.   With the never-ending support and encouragement from friends and family, 2013 saw my blog make wonderful progress. Over the year, Pinterest has been a huge driver of traffic to my blog and I currently have close to 23,000 people following me. My Facebook page is doing well with over 7,000 followers, with thanks to the wonderful community that ‘like’ and ‘share’ my ideas. I made various attempts throughout the year to learn and interact more on Twitter, however, this looks to be a goal thrown over to be achieved in 2014. I think my adoring love of sharing our ‘behind the scenes’ images of play on Instagram distracts me. Clearly I’m much more visual than is good for me and my blog. LOL    I feel very proud of the work I received through Kidspot and being a guest post to various other blogs throughout the year. I did my first ever hangout over on Google+, which was nerve wrecking but fun at the same time. I’ve become great friends with many other bloggers who I am able to converse with both online and through networking events, they have all make a huge impact on myself as a blogger and taught me so much.   At every end there is a new beginning.   From the bottom of my heart I would like to wish you all a wonderful new beginning. May 2014 bring you and your family great joy and happiness. Thank you all for all your support and I look forward to engaging with you all.    Much love,  Kate & Possum   Here are a few of my most popular ideas shared during 2013.      DIY Tugging Box   Fun Activity for Kids using Wool   Foil Art       DIY Chalk Rake   Chalky Paint   DIY Multicoloured Chalk     How to Make Crystals   Painting with Kitchen Cleaners   Number Games & Activities for Kids   Bubble Painting for Toddlers     Mess Free Painting for Toddlers   LEGO Activity for Tots   Glow in the Dark Shoes   Painting with Bubble Wands  […]
