I love the shiny sparkle that comes with Christmas tinsel. It only seemed like a great idea to add it to some lovely white playdough and have Possum enjoy it as a great sensory experience. Give tinsel playdough a try.
I just love the gorgeous, colourful stands of shiny tinsel that gets used at Christmas time.
For something a little different, I decided to make Possum (23 months) some tinsel play dough. It was incredibly easy and I used my homemade play dough recipe as it’s base.
Of course you could use any coloured tinsel you like, various colours would look great too. I decided on using gold tinsel with play dough that had no colouring added. To start, I carefully snipped off the golden strands, almost making something like glitter. If you are doing this with older children you could have them help you make the play dough and practice their scissor cutting skills before kneading it into the dough.
You can add as much or as little tinsel as you like!
Last year Possum was a little too young to understand much about Christmas. This year is going to be very different and we are excited about that. Here she is enjoying the sensory experience of touching the tinsel.
Possum loves her play dough and it didn’t take her long to start pressing her fingers in and moulding the dough to her liking. As you can see, this recipe for making play dough is wonderful and super soft.
It wasn’t long before Possum was pressing the long strands of tinsel into the play dough and enjoying the interesting impressions it made. Tinsel Playdough is fun!
She has been quite interested in the whole concept of wrapping gifts and seen my many attempts to be organised for Christmas and wrap as I go. Here is Possum using the tinsel to wrap up the play dough and give it to me as a present. Adorable!
Would your child enjoy playing with tinsel play dough?
Don’t stop here, there are more Christmas ideas for you –
