Shredded Paper for Sensory Play

June 25, 2013 by Kate 9 Comments

Shredded paper makes a great sensory experience for toddlers

I love it when common materials become these engaging play activities for children. This was the case when I received a delivery that was full of shredded paper!

Normally I would have tossed it into the trash, however, without a thought Possum was instantly attracted to all these amazing white strands and quickly began to spread it around herself. She loved the crunchy sound it made between her fingers and watching how lightly it floated to the ground when it was thrown in the air.

I realised that she had discovered an awesome sensory experience so I present – Shredded Paper for Sensory Play

So next time you receive a delivery with shredded paper, or you’re able to get your hands on some, consider giving your toddler a chance to have a play with it (under close supervision of course).

OTHER SENSORY ACTIVITIES FOR

Such a simple idea but my 15 month old twins LOVED it! We put the paper in a builders tray and they ended up climbing in and kicking it around after digging for toys and sprinkling the ‘snow’. Thank you for the inspiration on what had been a pretty tough day!

My daughter loves hanging out in my craft room for the paper scraps I make when I use my die-cut machine.. She sits and spreads them on the floor, and carries them around the room. I don’t even have to give her the pumpkins and trees and other shapes, she loves the scraps.
Thanks for sharing these great ideas.

It is the simple activities that are so entertaining for little ones! We love doing this one and hiding toys or other items in it too. Always a great time with shredded paper!
