Santa Snot

December 8, 2013 by Kate 3 Comments

Lets be honest, kids love things just that bit gross and disgusting, so for a bit of fun get them to have fun with some Santa snot. It’s a mess free sensory activity that will have them in fits of laughter.

Let’s be honest, kids love to play and experiment with things we might ordinarily consider terribly gross. Well here is a fun way to really gross out your children this holiday season and that’s with ‘Santa Snot’!

You will need

  • 1 cup hand wash (preferably green) hehehee
  • 3 tbsp red glitter
  • 3 tbsp green glitter
  • extra large zip lock bag (optional)
  • sticky tape

I simply added the hand wash and glitter to the bag and sealed the top well. I recommend removing the air from the bag before sealing it as this will help the overall sensory experience for your child.

To keep it all contained I stuck the bag on the tray of our highchair.

Very much like the mess free painting activity I posted back in July 2012, I wanted this to be a rich sensory activity for Possum (23 months) but contained. There is, however, absolutely no reason why your child couldn’t use the above recipe and play using an open platter. That would reeeeeeeeeally get their hands snotty. LOL

Possum is a little too young to understand the yuckiness of ‘snot’, however, if this was presented to a child over 3 years old then I’m sure they would find it wonderfully gross fun.

It was terrific to watch Possum use her fingers to move the glitter through the ‘snotty’ bubbles. This type of activity would suit children needing to work on their fine motor skills and letter formation as this recipe will create a mixture that children can draw and write in.

I would also recommend taking the opportunity to ask your child lots of questions that relate to what they are doing.
  • What does it feel like?
  • Why do you think you’ve got Santa’s snot?
  • What colours can you see?

Now I know this approach is a little out of the box but kids will really love to have fun with this. As they say, be a good parent and gross out your kids.

Would your child like to play with ‘Santa Snot’?
