A week or so ago I’d posted about a great tool that children could use for learning words. It is since then that I’ve felt inspired to take it further and share with you another learning tool but this time it focuses on number.
As you can see, this number roll requires children to do a match up. I designed this one to focus on numbers up to 6, however, this teaching tool can be as flexible as you like and suit your own child’s ability and level of understanding. Children simply need to turn the rolls to match a drawn digit with the number of dots (for subitising) and the number name in the written form, which they are required to read.
- Cardboard tubing (toilet roll or from wrapping paper)
- Scissors
- Coloured pens
Method
Simply begin by cutting one tube into 3cm pieces and slide them over another longer length of tubing. Draw an arrow to identify where the child is to match along and begin writing and drawing your numbers. I personally think that the order I have made is the best for learning but it’s personal choice.
It’s a great tool that children can use to help develop their understanding of number. Be sure to give it a go today.
In case you missed it, here are rolls that focus on making words. Great fun for kids to use.
