Lemon Scented Play Dough

June 1, 2013 by Kate 8 Comments

Lemon Scented Play Dough
As a child I always loved things that had a beautiful scent. Give me smelly stickers any day!!! There are lots of great scented play dough on the net but I decided to present mine to look like a real lemon as well as smell amazing.
Play Dough recipes and simple play ideas for kids to learn and play

This recipe is super simple because it involves no cooking. It takes me 5 minutes to make so I usually whip some together when Possum is sleeping.

RECIPE
2 cups plain flour
1 table salt
2 tbsp oil
4 tbsp cream of tartar
2 cups boiling water
food colouring

Firstly I added the flour, salt, water, oil and cream of tartar.  Combine and knead these ingredients until you create a thick consistency.

Added 3 caps of lemon essence. Feel free to add more if you feel it needs it.

Next add about 8 drops of yellow food colouring. Obviously you can add more or less. I was personally keen to achieve that bright yellow colour. Just be careful not to stain little hands.

Possum was really excited to have a play with this beautiful smelling play dough. I was so thrilled to have made it. I’ll certainly make it again in the future.

Would your child like this play dough?

Oh wow! I can smell it from here! 🙂 I think this could be next on my list… although I’m still hoping to make the cocoa and cinnamon one gifted to us at Christmas. It was DIVINE!

Hello! I have lots of lemons to use up right now and this looks like a great way to use them! I have linked up to this post in my grateful/10 ways to use lemons post. It’s live tomorrow morning(23 August) – I’m telling you now so I don’t forget! 🙂

    Thanks Kate.
Is this playdough only for playing? Can I use it for baking or something? I was just thinking that it’s a waste if I throw it away after playing. I think I need some ideas.
