Who wouldn’t enjoy eating one of these adorable window sandwiches?
They are so easy to make and perfect for lunch or to take to a children’s birthday party.
You will need –
- 2 pieces of bread
- 2 cookie cutters of the same shape but different size
- 1 tbsp butter or spread
- topping
Simply begin by buttering one piece of bread and using the large cookie cutter to create the outer shape. Spread or sprinkle the filling. I chose to only add it to the centre but you could add it sparingly to the edges of the shape.
Use both the large and small cookie cutter to create the shape that will become the ‘lid’ of your sandwich. The middle star can later become decoration if you choose.
Carefully place the lid to the previously prepared base and you’re ready to go!
Possum loves the occasional window sandwich. LOL
Perfect platter for Parties!!!
Here is a platter I made for a friend’s son who was turning 2 years old. I used different bread types (white, wholemeal and multigrain) and added a variety of fillings which I thought would suit both children and adults attending. The fillings I used for the platter were –
- 100s and 1000s sprinkles
- Strawberry jam
- Vegemite (popular Aussie spread)
- Avocado with a squeeze of lemon juice
You may also like to consider using a dipping spread, such as hommus, or salads as they would be a popular choice. Finally, it’s always important to be allergy aware and cater accordingly. 🙂

What do you think your child would like in their window sandwich?
Hannah Pereira says
How would you do this with cookies?
Kate says
It would be challenging and find a soft enough biscuit. Good luck.
