Healthy Bite recipe toddlers can make
I had to take over this part of the cooking process, although Possum had a great go at rolling the mixture into small golf-ball sized balls. Of course if you find the mixture too dry and hard to roll then add a tablespoon or two more of the apple sauce to help it combine.
What healthy treats do you like your children to eat?
Kellie says
I don’t have any applesauce but I do have some very ripe bananas. Wish me luck!
Kate says
Oh Kellie, I’d love to hear how the bananas turn out. Please let me know! 😀

I love this idea!! My daughter is 18 months and she is very hands on.
This question is very off topic, but what camera do you use?
Kate says
Hi Serre. Sorry for the delay getting back to you, I had to check! My camera is a SONY HD NEX-5. I added a lens to it too. It isn’t super fancy but it takes quality pictures and isn’t too big to hold and throw around. 🙂

I love this recipe – and it’s great that the little ones can make it themselves. I’ve just added the ingredients to my shopping list and we’ll have a go at this this afternoon!

Wonderful to read your comment Clare. Thank you! We have made these a few times and they don’t seem to last very long and get eaten. Hope you enjoy them too. Feel free to email me a picture and I can post it to my FB page – laughingkidslearn@gmail.com

Made these this morning with the wee ones and only added a tad bit of honey (2 tbsp, maybe?) to hold it all together a bit better! Turned out wonderfully delicious! 🙂 Thanks for sharing, this may become a new fave in our house!
Kate says
Oh how delicious Kati! I’ll certainly have to try it with some honey. I’m so glad you and your little ones enjoy them so much. 🙂

These would not hold together when mixed. Added more applesauce , then some honey . Could not roll them into balls , had to squeeze mixture into ball . Any tips as to why these would not roll.
Kate says
Hi Veronica. Thanks for contacting me. I’m sorry you had trouble with these. I can only assume that the ingredients in your country responds slightly different to where I am in Australia. The apple sauce should have moistened the other ingredients and allowed them to form a ball. I think you were clever to add a bit of honey. Hopefully they still tasted delicious!
Amanda says
I had the same problem at first – I gave the mix a little time to moisten, then instead of balls I pushed the mix firmly into a mini muffin pan. Added a few drops of pure maple syrup on top and gave it a minute to soak in so it’d have a touch more sweetness and a little more hold. I also used an apple / sweet potato / blueberry puree pouch instead of plain applesauce because hidden veggies! 😉 They’re in the oven now – can’t wait to try them!

How did they go Amanda?????
I love how well you were able to adjust the recipe to suit the ingredients. Great work lovely. 🙂
