DUPLO LEGO is well loved by children all over the world and it can be surprising how many ways they can be used. Here is a fun DUPLO LEGO matching activity for toddlers that is easy to set up and helps them develop their understanding of colours.
My girls just love their DUPLO LEGO, we recently did this fun game using the DUPLO blocks. Since Boo (2.5 years) is really getting to know her colours I set her a special task or challenge for her to complete, I got her to do a fun DUPLO LEGO matching activity.
Recommended age: 2 years +
(Strict and active supervision is required at all times)
It really is very easy to set up and prepare for your toddler or preschooler. You need –
- Coloured paper that match the DUPLO pieces
- DUPLO LEGO
Simple set out your coloured pieces of paper and have your child match them.
Boo chose to pick out various colours and match them. Some children, however, might want to match the DUPLO LEGO pieces one colour at a time. It’s completely up to them and there is no wrong way for them to go about it.
You can extend this activity for your toddler or preschooler by offering them DUPLO pieces that are stuck together in various colours. It is interesting to see what they decide to do.
Boo did put the DUPLO stack on one colour but recognised that it didn’t all match and thought to break the pieces apart. It was a great excuse for praise and conversation.
I love the problem solving approach to this activity.
This fun DUPLO LEGO matching activity for toddlers or preschoolers is great for developing an understanding of colours and matching. It’s super simple to set up and opens up lots of opportunity to discuss and explore colour language.
