Father’s Day

September 2, 2012 by Kate 2 Comments

Today is Father’s Day and I was keen to give my husband something special on behalf of Possum. This was an extra special day because it was also his 1st father’s day.

I had learned about salt dough that can be easily made and baked hard. The recipe is easy but the cooking takes the most time.

How to make Salt Dough

SALT DOUGH
1/2 cup salt
1/2 plain flour
1/2 water or as required

Add the water in small amounts as it seems to come together quite quickly and before you expect. Once the dough comes together and it is no longer sticky kneed it for a few seconds and flatten to a shape you desire.

I wrote Possums name and had my mum help me imprint Possums hand into the dough. Once you’re happy with the result then bake in a preheated oven at 90c/200f and for 3 hours. Of course you can paint this once it’s at room temperature but I chose to leave it as it was.

I’m pleased to say that my husband thought it was a great personalised gift that he will keep for the rest of his life.
