“The Three Billy Goats Gruff” is a traditional Norwegian Fairy Tale that is loved by children (and adults) all over the world. As a wonderful follow up to reading the story you might be interested in the Billy Goats Gruff craft idea for kids of school aged and beyond!
As a child I was always scared of the nasty troll who lived under the bridge and threatened the lives of each of the billy goats that crossed, each wanting to reach the other side where the grass was greener. But the way the goats trick the troll to get past him and wait for the oldest, strongest and biggest billy goat was always very satisfying to me.
It’s a fun story that many children love and so I created these super cute billy goats using basic materials, which you can have your children make at home or at school.
Recommended age: 5 years +

Billy Goats Gruff craft idea for kids
To make three adorable billy goats of different sizes, you will need –
- Cardboard tubes
- Pegs
- Sticky tape and glue
- Coloured paper
- Cotton balls
- Goggly eyes (optional)
Begin by cutting three cardboard tubes different lengths. You want them to be different so they represent the age of each billy goat that your child creates.
Cover them with paper and use glue or sticky tape to hold it in place. You can use textas instead.
Use the scraps of cardboard tubing to create the billy goat ears and use the pegs to hold them in place. Easy!
The pegs also look like the ears of the billy goat.
Add googly eyes to your goat and shape some cotton balls for the forelock and chin.
Using a pen I simply drew a nose and mouth.
Soon enough you will have your full set of three billy goats, which your child can have fun role playing with after having read the book. It’s a great craft that takes some assembly, but looks fabulous once it all comes together.
