I don’t know about you, but I love pretty much any play recipe that only has 2 ingredients. Brace yourselves my friends because I’m coming at you with 2 ingredient sand slime, or 2 ingredient sand foam for those who want to get technical. It’s all sorts of awesome.
Boo and I had our usual Tuesday together and I was thinking of what fun we could do. I remembered that I had everything I needed for us to make sand slime! The great thing about this recipe is, if you’re like me, you’ll probably have everything you need already around your home.

2 ingredient sand slime
To make this wonderful 2 ingredient sand slime, you’ll need is safe play sand, shaving cream, a bowl and spoon for stirring.
It really is as simple as that.
The quantities of this recipe are not at all specific as the shaving cream, even the sand, that you use can vary to what I’ve used.
Find delight in watching your child play and experiment with the mixture and use great language to describe what mixture you create. If you’re needing a starting point, begin by adding half a cup to 5 cups of sand to start with.
You can’t go wrong! Get experimenting.
Have your child mix, mix, mix and see what the result is. Your child might discover that the mixture is crumbly, if they want to add more shaving cream to create a more of a slimier texture.
Sensory play and learning
Understand that some children are not as confident at feeling a slimy texture. That’s completely fine and this isn’t an opportunity to force a child to do anything they are not comfortable with. A drier texture is a great place to start if your child is hesitant.
Incorporating descriptive language
Having your child play with this 2 ingredient sand slime is a great opportunity for you to engage in some rich descriptive language with them. As you share this play experience with them you might like to use words to describe what you’re feeling yourself or ask them to talk about what they are feeling.
I can’t recommend this 2 ingredient sand slime enough. I know some people call it sand foam because it includes shaving cream, but it’s open for debate. Regardless, it’a great quick and easy recipe that your child will have lots of fun getting their hands in.
Do you think you’ll give this sand slime a go?
