Decorating golf balls for father’s day gift

August 29, 2013 by Kate 60 Comments

Decorating golf balls for father’s day gift is a simple way to get little kids involved. These decorated golf balls will dramatically improve any golfers swing and the receiver will work hard to remain on the green and keep forever. Ha!

Decorating Golf Balls for Fathers Day Gift

It is almost Father’s Day here in Australia. It is these such days that we try and be more creative with our gifts rather than simply buying something from the shops. Hubby is quite a keen golfer and so it seemed fitting to give him some personally decorated golf balls.
Recommended age: 2 years +
(Strict and active supervision is required at all times)

Decorating golf balls as a great father's day activity and gift

The whole set up is incredibly easy. I simply purchased some golf balls from a sports store and a small collection of permanent markers in various colours. To help Possum with juggling the golf ball I placed it all inside a cardboard lid, similar to a pizza box.

You will need-
  • Permanent coloured markers (I used Bic)
  • Golf balls

It was so adorable watching little Possum draw her precious marks on the tricky surface of the golf ball.

There were times that she relied on the corners of the cardboard box to hold the golf ball in place. How great is that!

I love how she showed great persistence and completed the task with purpose. Her little face was full of concentration which is always nice to watch. You’ve also got to love how those fine motor muscles are being strengthen in the process.

Teachable moments for children –

  • What is this colour?
  • Can you match the coloured lid with the coloured pen?
  • Are you able to make a pattern? What comes next?
  • What words might you like to add?

I think this is one of those activities that result in a wonderful gift for someone special. Like I said, these golf balls will not want to get lost by their new owner and therefore save them money on golf lesson.

Would this make a great Father’s Day gift from your child?

My best friend’s hubby is an avid golfer. I’m going to send this link to her, she’ll love and her boys can do it this weekend.

It must have been so fun watching little Possum chase those tricky little balls around the inside of the box to draw on them. Such a fun activity!

We love decorating real items. A few years ago we decorated a hammer (hubby is a carpenter), but he is also a golfer, so I’m bookmarking this idea for next year. Pa will love it too.
